Random Facts
Every once in a while (i.e. every other second), I note a bizarre quirk that I find myself doing out of habit. I have decided that I will slowly compile and share these oddities.
- I check my gmail, my google reader, my twitter, and my Facebook as often as possible. I sold my soul to Google a while ago.
- I hate static electricity. Therefore, you will find me either smearing my fingerprints all over glass doors that I am able to push open instead of using the scary, metallic-y handle.
- I constantly find myself crossing my legs while wearing sandals, removing said sandals, uncrossing my legs and becoming visibly upset when my sandals fail to match the correct foot.
- Speaking of sandals, I love sandals. Love, love, love them. Unless it is uber-rainy or it is snowing, I will wear sandals all throughout winter. Despite the many odd stares, there have been chilly days when I have noted who else is wearing sandals/shorts. The answer is usually no one else.
- I strive to use proper grammar and punctuation. I'm not perfect but I try. Misspelling certain words and purposely not using punctuation is one of my pet peeves.
- Other random pet peeves include: people not properly RSVPing to events and people who use numbers in their email address.
- My online persona/user name is D2zL. Many people pronounce it "dee-too-zel". It really stands for "D to the L". Can you guess how old I was when I first came up with it?
- I still have a safety blanket. I have a weird habit that I've carried with me since my childhood. I enjoy toying with the edges of sheets and pillowcases with my fingers. It's really relaxing for me. I don't know why.
- I love game nights. There is nothing better than being surrounded by close friends and enjoying good company along with a board game. My interest in board games runs the gamut as I enjoy strategy (Stratego, Bohnanza, and Sequence) along with your typical party games (Cranium, Apples to Apples, Last Word, Imaginiff, Catch Phrase, and Taboo). I want to start working on puzzles but I don't know many people who would enjoy that! haha I also wish I knew more people that enjoyed singing karaoke. I'm not the best but I sure do enjoy belting out some Jason Mraz.
- I rarely ever pay attention to the actual lyrics of songs unless I really like the song. If there's a catchy beat -- I'm there.
- That being said, I love the lyrics that I have taken the time to truly enjoy. They make the song so much better.
- I love music with clapping and harmonizing vocals like choirs.
- I love pretty much all types of movies. Especially movies that have the power to inspire or move me. But I have to be in the right mood to enjoy a certain type of movie. My favorites genres are action, adventure, comedy and romance. I once watched Love, Actually in the theaters by myself just because I knew that it would be a good romantic comedy. I was right and that was an awkward experience. That being said, I'm not the biggest fan of period dramas, scary movies, gore movies or pointless movies.
- I love spoilers for movies or t.v. shows. Especially for movies that I'm kind of interested in seeing but not really. For example, scary movies. I enjoy reading which characters die and without even seeing the movie, I'll feel sad simply because I like the actor or actress.
- I really dislike scary movies. Why pay money to scare yourself?
- I really dislike roller coasters. Why pay money to scare yourself upside down?
- I try to use the word "dislike" instead of "hate".
- I believe in the power of words and I truly believe in what I say.
- I believe that having an open mind and an open heart are the keys to a happy life.
- I lost a lot of weight playing an arcade game called Dance Dance Revolution. I even traveled to Tennessee to partake in a tournament with a few friends. I was almost interviewed about my weight loss by Channel 9 but I decided against it as I recalled the desire to retain some semblance of a social life.
- I have never been fishing, camping or hunting in my life. I like the indoors. But I'm open to new experiences. I sometimes feel that my allergies severely limit me from truly enjoying being outdoors.
- I currently have three different outlets to relieve stress and/or tension: 1) I boil hot tea (preferably green) to sip while enjoying the outside air underneath the trees and stars; 2) I blog or I tinker with my blog; and 3) I visit the wellness center and take a jog or even better.. I play tennis.
- I love going for drives. Some of my fondest memories from my childhood are of me and my family going for drives late at night where my parents would talk and my sister and I would fall asleep in the back of the car.
- I enjoy meaningless debates with my younger sister. A few examples of some of our more memorable arguments are: Batman vs. Superman, PC vs. Mac, Backstreet Boys vs. N'Sync, Topher Grace vs. Josh Duhamel, and our personal favorite - Abraham Lincoln vs. George Washington.
- I suffer from a mild form of trichotillomania. My usual targets? My eyebrows. I was once studying at Barnes and Noble when an older woman approached my table and commented how my eyebrows resembled caterpillars. I no longer study at Barnes and Noble.
- I don't know how to truly emphasize this but I truly enjoy experiencing different varieties of foods. Enjoying cultural cuisines and delicacies is one of my favorite pastimes that I share with my mother.
- I love my family with all of my heart.
- I am incredibly proud of my fraternity and I love meeting Pikes across the nation. Back in the Summer of 2007 while vacationing in Orlando, I ran into 3 different Pikes (2 at Universal Studios and 1 at Disney).
- I absolutely love grilling out for friends and family. My favorite role at a party is as host.
- I try my best to be as polite and respectful as possible.
- I am a very reserved person during conversations. I love to listen to people and the stories they have to tell. If I have something to add to the conversation, I will.
- There is an owl that lives under the porch of my house's deck. He has several names including: Hootie, Hooticus, and Hedwig.
- My mom recently old me that I am more Asian than I would like to admit.
- I am not the biggest fan of alcohol. I might drink on occasion but I have an extremely low tolerance and I do not enjoy being called a "one shot wonder" even though my usual quip of it being cost effective works out. People are jealous.
- I really wish I could do a fake Asian accent but I just can't.
- I am constantly plagued by numerous constant desires to better myself. Most recently, I have taken up cooking and even though I am starting small, I am extremely pleased with my progress thus far. I have decided Monday nights, from hereon out, are Spaghetti Madness Mondays.
- I want to start working on NYT crosswords, learn how to play the guitar and learn how to play mah jong.
- I love Broadway musicals, acapella, ballroom dancing, and romantic comedies. I am also not the biggest sports fan apart from tennis.
- I love being a goof. I am truly a kid at heart.
- One of my biggest regrets is that I never learned how to speak Chinese.
- I can't wait to have children. I wish there were more opportunities to hang out with kids but just saying that makes it sound creepy. I have the most fun hanging out with my nephews or nieces. I currently volunteer my time as a Big Brother to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma. I love it.
- I have family and friends that live all around the world which give me the best vacation spots! SF, Hamptons, NYC, DC, Boston, Hawaii, UK, France, and Australia. Oh, and a timeshare in Orlando!
- On 1/11/11, I was offered an acceptance to study at the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry.

wow. i feel like i i know soooo much about you now. maybe too much...i'm kidding. i love the honesty!
I feel like I know too much about you now as well. But I think I'm slightly more disturbed by how similar we are. I was tallying how many I identified with, but quit in the double digits. I would do a list like this, but I would end up coming off as an extremely eccentric and neurotic old lady. Which I am. But most people are only aware of the old lady part.
