Spring 2010
Today was a whirlwind of a day trying to set everything that I have planned in motion. Despite my best efforts to narrow down my commitments, taking a slight glance at my calendar is a tad bit overwhelming to say the least.
As far as my time at UCO is concerned, I will be taking one graduate level course along with two separate independent study research projects. This is of course in addition to my graduate research. I will continue working as a graduate teaching assistant in close conjunction with the biology department. Unfortunately, due to limited enrollment, both of my biology labs were cut and so I will not be teaching this semester. I will admit that not being able to teach has been frustrating for me since it is one of my biggest passions but it does allow a bit more flexibility with my schedule which is what I really need. My only other commitment at UCO lies with the UCO Predental Society. This will most definitely be my last semester as an active member of the executive board as the position has been extremely time consuming. However, since the organization has been running fairly effectively for almost two years, I feel more safe in handing over the reigns to the next up and coming student leader. Yes. I'm finally ready to let my baby go.
As far as extracurriculars are concerned, I want to focus on my community service with Big Brothers Big Sister of Oklahoma and Diversionary Play at the OU Children’s Hospital. I plan to continue my association with the Lambda Iota Alumni Association for my fraternity as well as seek membership with the Edmond Young Professionals organization. I will also resume shadowing at Good Shepherd Mission clinic as well as the AEGD clinic at the OU College of Dentistry. Preparation for the DAT is a must seeing how I have finally scheduled an exam - May 29th at 8:00am! If you know me at all, this is a HUGE deal so wish me luck! And somehow through all of these commitments, I will find the time to continue my line or work managing my mother's tutoring center.
My own personal goals involve finding the time to stay in shape. I would like to complete a 5k run as well as a half marathon if time permits as running has evolved into a favorite pastime of mine. I have made plans to attend a wushu class with a good friend of mine fulfilling yet another Asian stereotype. I already picked up photography so why stop there? Haha
Travel plans are definitely in play. Early February will bring about a trip to DC to visit family as well as attend National Dental Student Lobby Day which I am unbelievably excited about. I am also spending a good amount of time watching ticket prices to SF during Spring Break.
I have a lot to look forward to this semester and I can’t wait to see the end results.
See you on the other side!
