A New Chapter

Here we are. Today's the day I can proudly announce.. it's official. I'm going to dental school!

University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry Class of 2015.

What started out as an idea that developed over the course of the past few years has finally come to fruition.

I have spent a lot of time dreaming and wondering exactly what I would say or how I would share the news of my acceptance. Of course, back then it was merely a distant dream.. a wondering wish. Words still cannot begin to express how elated I feel! I had been checking my phone all morning long eagerly anticipating the email as I was informed that offers were to be made early this week. It wasn't until later in the afternoon after I had become preoccupied with other matters when I happened to glance at my phone to find a tiny email notification blinking at me. Without giving it much though, I opened the email and discovered the following words..

"Dear Daryn, On behalf of the OU College of Dentistry, I am pleased to be able to offer you a position in the 2011 entering class."

I stopped breathing. This was the moment that I had dreamed of for years. The exact moment that I had repeatedly played out in my head. If I heard the good news.. who would I call first? What would I say? How would I let the most important people in my life know about this incredible life moment? I picked up the phone, calmly dialed my mom's number to ask, "Hi mom. Do you mind if I read you an email?" I spent the next few hours wading through a wave of messages and phone calls from loved ones informing them of the news.

I'm a fairly humble person. It's very seldom that you'll hear of me boasting of my accomplishments in such a manner. But today is a day I have to take the moment to give myself a proud pat on the back. Today is a day that I will want to cherish and remember for the rest of my life. One of the things that I've always looked forward to is having the opportunity to be in such a position to let others know to never give up on their dreams. Reflecting back upon the past 10 years since graduating high school (yes, I'm old) I have come a long way. What a roller coaster ride it's been.
