I'm Going to Disney World!
I almost have as much love for Orlando as I do for SF. It's uber-touristy and theme parks can wear ya down like no other but Disney and Universal have put a smile on my fave ever since I first started visiting the parks when they were a mere 3 hour drive away.
As always, the best part of each of these trips has been the company and my most recent Orlando adventure was no exception. Having spent the past few weeks traveling solo and with my sister busy finishing up her last few weeks of school before that, it's been awesome just catching up and spending time with her. It's kind of a scary thought that we're all growing up so fast and pretty soon we might end up living in different states. I'm so used to running up to her room and complaining about girls or randomly going on a food run. It's one of those things I end up taking for granted but I hope she knows how much I appreciate her and the time I get to spend with her.
Disney was a magical blast as per usual. The best part was that I was able to meet up with a future classmate of mine and her family! Somehow I ended up getting coerced to ride Space Mountain, something that I had been refusing all day long, but getting tag-teamed by everyone helped me cave into the peer pressure. I dug it. It wasn't as bad as I made it out to be. Baby steps. Maybe next time I'll go for Splash. MAYBE.
The next day I ended up meeting up with a childhood friend of mine from Jacksonville. Apparently we were in Chinese school together back in the day (yeah, none of it apparently stuck) and we only recently reconnected on Facebook. After making the drive from Jax, we ended up park hopping and just hanging out. I admit from time to time that I sometimes get sentimental or nostalgic about the relationships lost throughout the years. All the names and familiar faces from my childhood are ones that more than likely I will never have a true relationship with which disappoints me. Of course, the reality of it all is that people come in and out of your life on a daily basis and attempting to cling on to these passerbys is sometimes wasted effort. But like with everything else in my power, I know I'll always do whatever I feel I'm capable of and hanging out with my childhood friend was tons of fun!
The rest of Orlando was a blur as those first few days at the park wore me down. I guess I'm not as young as I pretend to be. Regardless, riding my fave rides, taking goofy pictures with the characters (at what age does that become too weird?), hanging out with friends, eating wonderfully touristy food, Outlet shopping, multiple night at the piano bar, dancing with random girls to Buble's Haven't Met You Yet, and spending time with my family all made for a wonderfully memorable trip!
